Winter Fund Drive
Dear Friends of Street Roots,
Street Roots celebrates 10 years of education, dialogue, and independence at a time when the need for action is increasingly imperative.
Street Roots continues to see a groundswell of individuals walking through our door, looking for resources, answers, and a way to earn an immediate income to meet a pressing need.
We work hard to deliver those resources through the economic development of people in poverty through the vendor program, the Rose City Resource (www.rosecityresource.org) guide and the newspaper itself.
Are successes this year are many. We’ve helped more than 30 vendors on the streets become housed through providing stability and income through the sales of the newspaper.
We spearheaded hard-fought battles for housing assistance for 300 people in NW Oregon through our advocacy and reporting, while leading the way to secure millions of dollars in homeless services for the City of Portland. We also led critical discussions both through the newspaper and with the general public about the civil rights of people experiencing homelessness, while incorporating the voices of a wide range of voices throughout our community.
We’ve been told the quality of the newspaper is at an all time high and that vendors are a leading example in the community about how the broader public and people on the streets can build and maintain quality relationships.
Saying all that, this year has been a challenging year for Street Roots. Both foundation money and donations are down this year. Simply put, we’re hurting.
There’s several ways you can plug into helping Street Roots this fall and winter.
* Give directly to Street Roots on-line at www.streetroots.org or by mail to 211 NW Davis.
* Look for our on-line auction starting Oct. 30 through Nov. 8. Go to the Street Roots home page during this time and you’ll be connected to the on-line auction. If you’re looking for gifts or something for yourself, it’s a great way to help the organization and get something in return.
* Look for Street Roots in the Willamette Week Give! Guide coming out Nov. 11 in the Willamette Week.
We can’t thank you enough for your support over the years. We could use your help now more than ever.
Sincerely,
Israel Bayer
